The iPhoneX
Is it really worth $ all the Hype? We polled AG students for their thoughts.
By Shanna McManus Student Life Section Editor + Student Interview by Kylie Bricker -- 10/17/17

As many of you may already know, Apple is to release their newest phone, the iPhone X, this November. This new iPhone has many new features, including  the device being completely screen and removing the home button. Another feature it comes with is the ability to unlock your phone with new facial-recognition software. Apple boasts that you will be able to unlock your phone with a glance, and wireless charging. According to Apple, the price of this iPhone ranges between $999 and $1,149.

All of this talk of the new phone comes down to one major question: is it really worth that much money?

David Friend-

“It’s worth getting, but it isn’t worth $1,000, that’s too much money for a phone.”

Mya Bailey-Harbarger-

“It’s a more improved version of the older iPhone models. It will probably be more helpful for work and social media.”

Dalton Bricker-

“It’s a waste of money. I’d rather use that money for something else.”

Olivia Miller-

"I would buy one, but not for that price. It has a lot of updated features. I think its an advanced piece of technology but I don't think it needs to cost that much. It stands the chance to break or crack - we would spend even more money to fix it. "

Stephen Duranko-
"I recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and it is, in my opinion, better than the iPhone. The software is so much better and changes regularly. The camera is just as good and offers everything the new iPhone has plus more and it costs less!"

Tia Shipley-
"I just got the 6. I don't have an opinion."

The First High School Pep Rally of the Year – From a Freshman's Point of View

By Juanita Johnson -- 10/17/17

Spirit week flew by so fast, and Friday was here before we knew it. The end of the school day was met with much anticipation as the student body filed into the gym for our very first pep rally of the year. The experience for a first-timer was overwhelming to say the least. The freshmen were timid and unsure, not knowing what to do, or what cheer and yell – most just sat there and watched as all of the other classes showed their spirit and love for AG. According to a few teachers, who have seen their fair share of pep rallies and spirit weeks – “it’s always like this.” – “…the freshmen are just so timid and afraid to show that school spirit.”

Unfortunately, the freshman, sophomores, and even the seniors fell short to this year’s junior class for the prize of the coveted spirit stick. Each class gave a great effort and all tried to cheer as loud as possible but were no competition for the loud, cheerful, 4th of July Juniors!

The Sophomore, Junior and Senior classes went all out dressing according to their class themes. They proudly displayed their themed outfits for all of their peers to see. Freshmen on the other hand lacked enthusiasm for their theme. The number of ‘Football Freshmen” was limited. Had the freshmen shown some school spirit, would they have stood a chance to win that spirit stick?

Over all, it is this reporter’s opinion that freshman didn’t live up to their full potential – and I can say that, because, I’m a freshman! I know as we return as sophomores, we will be back and better than ever to claim the spirit stick as ours next year. But what can we do for the incoming freshmen of the 2018 - 2019 school year to start them off on the right track – full of AG pride?

Halloween Costumes
By: Shanna McManus -- Student Life Section Editor

It’s that time of year again- the one day that you can dress up or pretend to be something you aren’t- Halloween! This spooky holiday is celebrated in many different ways. One of those ways being the tradition  of dressing up. Some people dress up as vampires or zombies while others dress up as well-known characters such as someone or something from a popular tv show or movie. We asked some of our peers and teachers what their favorite costume was when they went trick-or-treating.

genie because it was a pretty costume.
It had sparkles and I felt pretty while
wearing it.”

I was proud of it.”
